During this visit, students learned a variety of construction techniques, including concrete mix designs and ratios, block manufacturing and laying, material selection and storage, timber-slab construction, and the installation of building services like water and electricity.
The students were thoroughly briefed and ensured they had their full PPE on. ENG. Buwasi Elly guided them around the site, explaining each construction stage in detail. Despite a brief interruption by heavy rain, the students resumed their learning with enthusiasm. They asked insightful questions, and the engineer provided valuable guidance.
Engineer: ENG. Mikago Grace
Building Type: Low-rise
At this site, students were exposed to pad foundation construction, slab shuttering, material storage on site, and ground floor construction with BRC reinforcement.
ENG. Mikago Grace briefed the students, ensured they had their full PPE on, and guided them around the site. The students were keen to learn and asked numerous questions, which the engineer answered comprehensively. This hands-on experience was invaluable in helping them understand the practical aspects of their studies.
The entire visit lasted about 5 hours, split between two groups led by two trainers per group. This experience not only enriched the students' knowledge but also provided them with a real-world perspective on construction techniques.
